Bedslide is a revolutionary accessory for trucks and SUVs. It turns your truck bed into essentially a drawer, making for the easiest and most productive loading and unloading possible.

I was the sole developer on their new fully featured e-commerce site, built with a custom integration of Wordpress and OpenCart platforms to essentially make them function as one application. Site also features: Store Selector feature with Google Maps and OpenCart integration, modern jQuery interactive animations, user ratings, and user accounts / shopping carts that are portable across the OpenCart Store and Wordpress blog.

In addition, I pitched the creative concept behind their commercial spot that we ended up producing at Steelhead: watch the ad

The LG Electronics Training site is a required training course for sales representatives who deal in LG devices, with several thousand users and thousands of locations.

The site features an ajax-driven lightbox interface to advance many of the required steps, interactive quizzing with reporting, and interactive flash and video pieces to enhance the experience throughout.

After reviewing the training materials, all users are required to pass the quizzes, and conditionally earn certifications and promotions. Users' progress is reported back via a scheduled shell script I wrote that emails excel spreadsheets to the client on newly certified or rewarded users by location, and reports possible site abuse by any users.

I was the main developer and implemented these features for 2009-2011

Background

I have been a web developer by professional title for seven years and a hobbyist programmer for eight years before that. I taught myself Visual Basic when I was 14, and took my first C++ class in 1998 when I was 15. My untold years spent thriving on the internet and leading a generally web-enabled lifestyle has lead to my severe impatience with poor user-interface choices. I am an expert at bringing to life enjoyable interfaces for potentially complex application tasks.

I have been a lead developer on full-scale multi-national client projects (LG Electronics, Panasonic, Motorola...), and developed a variety of gnarly stuff from games to graphics to financial software in php, Java and Javascript (I'm an expert with Jquery and ajax/json), Actionscript 3.0 and some Flex, Visual Basic / VBA / Access, a touch of Objective-C, and C++, and using technologies including XML, MySql, Postgres, Oracle, and Sybase. I've routinely been responsible for various acrobatics with Apache, PERL, and some linux systems wizardry.

I have developed fairly extensively on platforms CodeIgniter, Wordpress, MovableType, and OpenCart, and to a lesser extent with CakePHP, Gaia, Drupal (7), Concrete5, with a dabble of Ruby on Rails.

In many ways I'm the prototypical post-dot-com-bust webnerd, but I like to think I bring more of an artistic eye to highly technical projects than your traditional nerd. I am a photographer, musician, and skateboarder, and I adapt easily across technical tasks, artistic work, and creative projects alike.

I hold a Bachelors in Computer Science From the University of Oregon 2007 where I studied maths, philosophy, physics, and 3D graphics.

Clients I've done work for include but are not limited to: LG Electronics, Panasonic, National Park Service Alaska, University of Oregon, Steelhead Advertising, Easy Street Records, Bedslide, WindshieldReferral.com, Downforce Motoring, traininggrove.com, seankilpatrickdesign.com

Employers

Steelhead Advertising   -   May 2009 to May 2011

The self-proclaimed greatest ad agency in the known universe, Steelhead Advertising is a leading Portland, Oregon advertising agency.

For two years I was on board as an interactive developer among a small team of expert professionals in design, writing, development, and production. We worked very closely together to create entire campaigns for regional to international clients, delivering competitive and edgy advertising through the web, TV, print, social media and beyond.

Our fast-paced work demanded developers to have extreme agility in handling a variety of different tasks from systems administration to database engineering to graphic design, from any and all locations, days of the week, and hours.

Bravo web solutions   -   Octber 2008 to May 2009

At Bravo, one of the most notorious web agencies of the Eugene/Springfield area, all production aspects of the shop's web work were shared between one other senior developer and myself with an additional junior developer under me. I handled schema design, architecture, systems administration, user interface planning and design, and in some cases graphic direction and design. We mostly worked with medium-to-large clients, and on the shop's largest accounts I was the technological face of the company with the client, directly meeting in-person, managing and implementing solutions to best match their needs.

Moonshadow E-Commerce   -   February 2008 to October 2008

Moonshadow E-Commerce is/was a marketplace e-commerce start-up that pioneered online marketplace sales technologies, and for some years was the #2 competitor to amazon.com. I was contracted onto a team of 8 developers for a seasonal development push to overhaul, re-implement, design and build new features of an extremely feature-rich web-application with around 400 stores open for business running off the single marketplace application.

All of these were extremely dense, long, programming days to nail very difficult features on very tight deadlines. I was responsible for writing the application's shopping cart logic complete with user accounts, gift certificates, live api call shipping estimation, group discounts, and shop-customizable display options. The purchases made through my shopping cart and the team's application total a few million dollars a year. Example store running on the same platform (as of 2011): easystreetonline.com

University of Oregon: Center For Educational Technologies   -   September 2005 to February 2008

In my student days as Computer Science undergrad at the U of O, I was with the CET department as an all-around interactive media developer. I worked on UO-related projects as well as outside client projects. I was responsible for the planning, design, and development of web and interactive media projects on a team of about six. Many projects were government funded. Clients include Nation Park Service Alaska.

Stream Inc. (Formerly ECE)   -    June 2002 to October 2004

For nearly two years I fielded 20-40 end-user support calls per day for global clients like Symantec, Roxio, Adobe, and AT&T as a tech support representative and virus removal technician and was promoted to tier-2 support, providing technician support to around 300 in-house technicians.
